Dambulla Cave Temple
One of the main attractions in Dambulla is the sacred cave temple complex. Spanning an area of around 2,100 square metres, it has been an important pilgrimage site for Buddhists for more than 22 centuries. Established as a significant monastery as early as the 3rd century BC, the caves were further developed and preserved by successive kings until the 11th century. They remain a sacred site to this day.
Beyond its historical and religious importance, Dambulla is also a lively hub with many interesting places to explore, making it a popular destination for visitors.
